AS IF: an exclusive online editorial by LORENZO PAINO FERNANDEZ for 10 DE

“It reflects something polished, meeting something slightly off”, explains Hakan Solak. “It reflects the way the looks sit in the environment. Not fully belonging, but also not completely out of place. That in-between feeling was important.”

The 10 DE Fashion Editor is discussing “As If” the online editorial he created with long-time collaborator, photographer, Lorenzo Païno Fernandez. Their working relationship is one of ease. “I can push things quite far styling-wise and he knows how to capture that without making it feel forced,” Solak explains. “There’s a good balance between control and letting things happen.”

The shoot is set in the French capital and is all about contrast. “Paris can feel very classic, almost predictable visually,” he explains. “So I wanted to interrupt that with something sharper and more unexpected. Strong silhouettes, bold colors, and a bit of tension between elegance and awkwardness. “The street became the backdrop, but the clothes kind of disrupted it, like interrupting the city a bit.”

The chosen brands take this concept even further: “Valentino for that softness; David Koma has a more controlled element; Coperni very now; Givenchy sharper; Louis Vuitton more structured and Vaquera to break it up a bit. I didn’t want one mood, I wanted friction between them.”
