Lensed by Stefano Tripodi and styled by Alessia Ansalone, this shoot for 10 DE sees Marie Davidson return to the stage as an artist firmly in control of her own narrative. Photographed performing songs from her album ‘City of Clowns,’ which was released last February, the Montreal based performer focuses on the blurred lines between authenticity and exposure, in an era of constant exposure.
The album, Davidson’s sixth studio release via DEEWEE, saw her partner with Soulwax and Pierre Guerineau to craft a sonic landscape where club floor kinetics meet high concept pop. Inspired by Shoshana Zuboff’s ‘The Age of Surveillance Capitalism,’ the album serves as an autopsy of the digital age, exploring how technology seduces and haunts until the self begins to erode. Through her trademark spoken-word delivery, Davidson transforms critique into rhythmic choreography, weaving together threads of irony, raw vulnerability, and caustic wit.
Where her previous album ‘Working Class Woman’ explored the paradoxes of nightlife, ‘City of Clowns’ goes deeper into the pageantry of the human condition. Balancing irony with sincerity, Davidson’s latest creates a space to laugh, question, and dance all at once.
