Four months after his debut women’s show for Balenciaga, Pierpaolo Piccioli’s vision for the house is becoming clearer. The designer has focused on the sports/formal conversation, a smart juxtaposition considering how our lives are now rarely compartmentalised.
The new collection entitled Body and Being – which includes menswear – features a cast of artists and actors such as Alice Da Luz, Sarah Catherine Hook , Eliot Sumner, Juyeon and more as they go about their daily lives. Lycra sets are married with a classic Balenciaga pea coat,sequined skirts with sports bras are all taken to the gym. Plus there are surprise collaborations with Manolo Blahnik on seductive mules and the National Basketball Association on a range including, shorts, T-shirts, bombers and track suits. The sporting collab plays on the league’s brand colours – electric blue, scarlet and white –mixed together with a suitably Balenciaga black, which drops today.
