10 loves: Chanel’s dazzling chess set debut

Fancy a game of Chess?

If you were in Geneva for the annual Watches and Wonders extravaganza, you would have been awestruck by Chanel’s incredible reinvention of the classic games board, whether you were an enthusiast or not.

The limited-edition, 32-piece Coco Game Capsule Collection features Gabrielle Chanel as the Queen, with several intriguing surprises.

The brainchild of Arnaud Chastaingt, director of Chanel’s watchmaking creation studio, the centrepiece conceals a secret timepiece beneath its base and once removed from the board,  becomes a pendant watch, suspended from a diamond, onyx and white gold chain stored neatly within the chessboard.

The black obsidian chessboard plays host to alluring pieces such as a lion embodied as the King, all sculpted in ceramic, white gold, and diamonds. In addition, Mademoiselle’s tweed jacket – available in black and white  –  features 842 brilliant-cut diamonds for the white iteration, and 193 diamonds as accents for the black, thanks to a “tweed setting” technique.
