This editorial is the first location project from 10 DE’s Lena Lauer and photographer, Szymon Stepniak.
Inspired by a Vivienne Westwood quote: “I don’t want to be a person who just stands in the background. I want to be the one who creates the backdrop,” the creatives ( who had previously worked on a studio piece) deduced that this next collaboration should venture outside,
The title is a wordplay that examines different layers within the images and questions what constitutes the background and what constitutes the focal point of the picture?
The pair integrated different backgrounds and backdrops normally used in studio settings into the picture, elevating them from passive elements to active subjects in the composition.
