To elevate female filmmaking to the centre of contemporary cultural discourse.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Premiering last night at Curzon Mayfair Cinema, Miu Miu unveiled the latest evocative film in the series: Women\u2019s Tales #29, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Autobiografia Di Una Borsetta<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, written and directed by British auteur <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/jopacey\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joanna Hogg<\/a> (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Souvenir<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, 2019, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Eternal Daughter<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, 2022). \u201cI didn\u2019t hesitate for a millisecond when I got the invite to do the 29th episode of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Women\u2019s Tales<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">,\u201d says Hogg. \u201cIf I had to choose a brand I love, I would say Miu Miu, because of what Mrs. Prada has done over the course of her life. I always felt privileged to wear her clothes.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Tapping into a cinematic style that cross-pollinates naturalism with magic surrealism, the idea for the film was born from a book \u2013\u00a0but not in the way you think. As opposed to adapting a narrative piece of literature for the silver screen, Hogg was thinking of the book <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Prop<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, which she published alongside her friend, the academic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/johndavidrhodes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John David Rhodes<\/a>, and the author <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elenagorfinkel.com\/about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Elena Gorfinkel<\/a>. Begging the questions \u201cWhat are film props?\u201d and \u201cWhat do they do?\u201d <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Prop<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> led Hogg to consider making a prop the protagonist of a story, and for people to form the backdrop. \u201cMiu Miu is a risk-taking brand,\u201d Hogg says, referring to how taking the plunge is an imperative part of her own creative process. \u201cIt\u2019s very rare to have the freedom that <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Women\u2019s Tales<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> gives a filmmaker. At first, I was intimidated by this freedom. Then I said to myself, \u2018I&#8217;m going to take up the challenge\u2019.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Considering this, within <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Autobiografia Di Una Borsetta<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, a white Miu Miu Wander bag takes centre stage. It\u2019s dirty, beaten up and weathered by time \u2013\u00a0alone\u2026. What\u2019s its story?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">At first, it sits on a rock in Maremma, surrounded by the painterly clouds of a Tuscan sky. Then, although it is mute, it discovers its voice and we watch and listen to the handbag as it recounts its life story. From birth to old age, the bag\u2019s lifetime spans a variety of socially-encoded spaces \u2013 from ultramodern factory to sprawling Italian villa to impoverished urban peripheries \u2013 and a spectrum of owners, from privileged teenage daughter to working-class assassin.
