Germans don’t mess around when it comes to mineralwasser. There are over 500 brands available in Germany and around 78% of bottled water consumed in the country is carbonated. But when did this love affair first blossom?<\/span><\/p>\n

It all started in Roman times, when Caesar and Augustine conquered the area now known as Germany in the early 1st century. The Romans rode into the district of Limburg-Weilburg in The Hesse region and delighted in the sparkling springs which erupted from the ground and they duly called them\u00a0 Aqua Saltare (Latin for ‘dancing water’). The name was applied to the town and has since evolved to the more German-sounding name, Selters.<\/span><\/p>\n

Since then an affinity with bubbles has become part of society, but with Germany having some of the cleanest tap water in Europe, it seems that we are missing out on our at-home fizzy potential.<\/span><\/p>\n

Enter Swedish design and engineering brand Aarke<\/a>, purveyors of some seriously sexy, but yet sustainable kitchen essentials.
