“We actually found each other’s work through Instagram,” explains London-based photographer Bex Day when asked about how she first met stylist Arianna Cavallo. “Being in two different cities, we really wanted to find a project with no limitations as our first shoot together.” The two creatives found common ground immediately, as both were driven by a desire to create a piece focusing on bespoke pieces examining craft and garment structure.
“I own an Osteria in Paris and we use a lot of vintage linens, inspired by Italy in the 50s. It’s a reminder of home and a way to make the place cozy and elegant, “ explains Cavallo. “I felt like I wanted to take that feeling outside of the restaurant and explore the linens in a different way. They’re such everyday objects, but they carry so much memory and character.”
The resulting work feels both contemporary and a little nostalgic; perhaps a little strange – and yet very Italian. Day’s unwavering gaze captures the tension between the material’s vulnerability and strength, creating a series of wonderfully intimate imagery
