Jake Martin (the creative director) had the idea for this piece and reached out to me,” explains photographer Charlotte Helwig. “Stylist Hauke Stark and I have worked together several times before, we speak the same aesthetic language, so naturally I suggested her.”
“I really enjoy working with Stark as there is a lot of trust from both of our sides,” Helwig explains. “We know each other well and truly respect eachother’s creative processes. And it was interesting to collaborate with Jake, who drove the storytelling behind the piece.
Helwig is talking about ‘Civic,’ a shoot exploring the gently worn and pastel-coloured facades of post-war East Berlin. Stark found the location faded and worn colours in liminal untouched rooms, which perfectly complement the authoritative silhouettes she carved out in the styling.
