INTERVENTION VI RETURNS TO BERLIN FASHION WEEK WITH A FOUR-DAY EXPLORATION OF FASHION, MEMORY AND CULTURE

Reference Studios’ INTERVENTION returns for its sixth edition during Berlin Fashion Week, expanding beyond the runway with four days of exhibitions, installations and performances that continue to position fashion within a broader cultural dialogue. Conceived and curated by Mumi Haiati, this season’s programme unfolds across some of the city’s most significant cultural spaces, from Potsdamer Straße to the Schinkel Pavillon and the Kronprinzenpalais, bringing together contemporary fashion, collectible design, music and archival practice.

Running from 2nd to 5th July, INTERVENTION VI opens with Partie Deux at Galerie OM, the collectible design gallery currently in residence at P100, Reference Studios’ experimental curatorial platform. The exhibition assembles carpets, tapestries and symbolic objects that examine memory, ritual and the visual languages shared across cultures, setting the tone for an edition that looks beyond fashion alone.

The programme continues over the weekend at Schinkel Pavillon with a new project curated by Shayne Oliver. Transforming the designer’s personal archive into an immersive installation, the exhibition brings together archival garments and deadstock fabrics while exploring the ways clothing accumulates meaning through circulation, authorship and memory. Spanning two floors, the presentation pairs Oliver’s ongoing MUSEUM project with EBAY ARCHETYPES, an evolving archive hosted by Reference Studios that allows selected works to continue their journey online, extending the conversation between physical and digital culture.

Runway presentations take over Berlin’s Kronprinzenpalais on 5th July with a line-up that reflects INTERVENTION’s international outlook. Berlin label Dagger opens the day, followed by Copenhagen’s Martin Quad and Tokyo’s John Lawrence Sullivan by Arashi Yanagawa, before GmbH closes the programme with a presentation celebrating ten years since Benjamin Huseby and Serhat Işık founded the label. Between shows, Berlin-based multi-instrumentalist Braths provides live performances in the palace gardens, bringing another layer of experimentation to the day’s programme.

For Haiati, the sixth edition continues a conversation first introduced earlier this year. “After months of asking how authenticity survives mediation, we wanted to spend a few days simply living it,” he explains. At a moment increasingly shaped by technological acceleration, INTERVENTION VI instead turns towards the analogue, the handmade and the human, positioning live experience as a form of cultural resistance as much as celebration.

More than a fashion week fixture, INTERVENTION has steadily evolved into one of Berlin’s defining cultural platforms, dissolving the boundaries between exhibition-making, performance, music and fashion. As the initiative prepares to travel to Paris and the Rhine-Ruhr later this year under the expanding Reference Festivals programme, its latest edition once again reinforces Berlin’s position as a city where creative disciplines are at their strongest when they intersect.
